I have worked with children in one role or another for the past ten years. Last semester I student taught 8th grade American History in Fort Collins and completed my social studies licensure. I then substitute taught a myriad of subjects from English to Math, grades pre-K through 12th grade. Before that I spent four years going through CSU's education department and semesters with students ranging 6th grade to 12th grade. I earned all A's in my graded graduate courses at Teachers College, Columbia University. I believe this reflects my ability to study, learn, research and write research papers. My Master of Arts degree is in Psychology in Education. The courses for this program were in Developmental Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation. I have a BA in English, and graduate magna cum laude. I was accepted into an Alternative Teacher LIcensing Program for the state of Colorado, and taught language arts for the 2009-2010 school year. I have passed my Praxis II exam, and I am best at working with grammar and mechanics. I like to encourage my students to put themselves into their writing. I like to push my students to write better than what they think is their best. I take pride in following grammatical rules, and am a stickler for proper MLA formatting for research based papers. I believe all children have the right to a great education; they just need someone to push them in the right direction. I love children, and I can almost always find a way to relate to my students.

I believe that my teaching style is one of patience, encouragement, along with being laid-back, considerate and easy-going. I want to take the time to make sure a subject is well understood. It's about the pace and not the race to get it right. I just love sharing what I know and seeing someone 'get it'. While I do not have a bachelor's degree, through my training as a certified veterinary technician and subsequent employment in both clinical and shelter settings, I have gained strong aptitudes for science and writing skills. I believe that each student is different, and that the best teaching method differs with each student. Some students respond better to being challenged while others will require smaller steps. The goals of the students also vary, some needing only to pass while others need a solid foundation in anticipation of further study. I believe I can tailor instruction to the students' needs.
