Experience Summary
I have a BS in biology with a teaching emphasis as well as an AS and AA. My college education has included classes in anatomy and physiology, geology, physics, organic and standard chemistry, zoology and botany. I have been a member of a field research team and involved in my own research project. I have tutored students in not only biology but also many other academic disciplines. I also have a broad base of life experiences.
Teaching Style
I love to teach one-on-one or in small groups. The greatest moment for me, as a teacher, is what I call the “Aha!” that I see in a student’s eyes when he/she finally understands a troublesome concept.
I believe that teaching is about empowering my students to take responsibility for their own learning. I want to help my students in clarifying their own values and provide the opportunity to explore and discover answers to the questions they create; I want my students to analyze, compare, and evaluate the answers they discover.
Finally, even though I primarily teach science, no subject stands alone. Reading and writing is important in all subjects and science is no exception.
