I like to understand where the students are coming from, and see if I can make the topic more understandable. My thought is to make the student understand the topic, not just get by.
I have been teaching for six years at the Southwest Colorado Community College. I have taught basic mathematics to algebra III. (Math 121) I also have done quite a bit of tutoring with those in my class, and those not in my class (statistics and calculus). I have taught for the gateway to college program. It is a program that helps high school drop outs get their high school diplomas, and get a start in college. While in New York, I worked for two years as a teacher of Science at a Junior High school in the Bronx. There I was awarded "Rookie-Teacher-of-the-Year." For one year, I also tutored after school to earn extra money. I have also taught in California and Santa Fe, NM. My passion is to be an International speaker on the topics of Metaphysics and Spirituality.
I believe it is best to offer guidance, and allow the student to go through the process of discovery. Things learned independently are much more prized and valuable. Of course, one cannot let them flounder too long so that discouragement sets in. And it is best to find out what they like, and to work with that as much as possible.

I enjoy working one on one with a wide variety of students - those with solid backgrounds in mathematics, as well as those who have had difficulties with mathematics their entire lives. In fact, I believe that one of the biggest reasons a child/teen/adult needs tutoring in mathematical sciences often stems from something missing in their early years of learning math. I can tutor any aged person. I enjoy getting the student to relate - what is often an uncomfortable subject for them - to the real world and to enhance their own personal future opportunities.
