As the daughter of an illerate parent, I have learned the value of being able to read and that of an education. My education is the second most important thing to me. I am the single mother of two children, in order to support them while attaining my degree I cleaned houses. This experience only solidified , in my mind, the importance of education. While pursuing my degree in English, I learned how to communicate my thoughts through writing and researching for various papers in different subjects. The paper writing process has taught me to constantly work on grammatical and research skills. While attainging my education I tutored students in English, Literature and writing. I finally had decided that teaching was not for me because I wanted more of an office setting job so i decided to major in business management. I have decided that I want to pursue in subsitute teaching so that I am able to help children and spend more time with my newborn.
Nothing is better than seeing a huge smile on a child's face once they cath on to something. I love helping children learn by doing a lot of visual activities and practicing! I was always the only person who could help my younger sister study for tests because she said my teaching techinique is very helpful and makes her remember things. It always made me feel good knowing i was the only one who could help her study!

I enjoy teaching children of all ages, but I prefer to teach children within the middle school and high school ages. I feel that those times are critical to their learning and retention of information. I appreciate what I do or have done when I can see success with a student achieving knowledge within their particular area of study.

I received an honors degree from Fairborn High School and Wright State University. Education has always been very important to me. While attending WSU for fine arts, I was reminded of my passion for teaching and decided to also acquire my art education certification. During my education program, I was placed in Xenia High School. I was also selected by the art education advisor as one of four students to take part in an innovative teaching class where I learned how to use art and music to teach science and math. I helped design and co-teach an art/math/music lesson to a 6th grade math class in Dayton Public Schools.

To be honest I worked as a Substitute because I was Laid off from my job. But when I started teaching I found it was very difficult to keep control of the class and to get the students to do their work. I thought I couldn't do this anymore. I didn't quit and things did get better. I learned that most of these children were from single parent homes, and were living below the poverty level. They were scared, hungrey and tired at times, and I new I had to adjust for me to be of any help, and I did. I believe it takes parents, teachers and students all wanting to work together to be successful. I feel I'm a very patient and caring individual and want my students to succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is laid back and comfortable. I like to use flash cards, fun games, and rhyming teachniques. I think children have to like their teacher to do well. Many of my former students have kept in contact with me over the years.. being invited to their graduations, weddings and other parties. I made a very good impression on them...as most often teachers can be forgotten as the years go by. I try to make learning fun and I like to incorporate color and coloring to work sheets and assignments. I am very creative.
As a business woman of 24 years, I have gained valuable experiences in many different sectors; banking, customer service, marketing, sales, public relations and teaching. As the daughter of a teacher, I am familiar with teaching styles and student difficulties. I am able to present solutions in varying ways, which will reach the student I am tutoring. My experience in tutoring includes co-workers, students I attended college with, and outside tutoring. My professional experience in the field of graphic and multimedia design gives me great depth in the programs necessary to be successful in this field.
It is wonderful to see the "light bulb" come on in a student's eyes. I enjoy helping people, as I can understand the frustration felt when a student is "stumped". I am a listener. The child or young adult will guide me as to how his question can be most efficiently answered.
