**Fun, Creative Tutor Specializing in Math**

With a lot of subjects, especially math and science, students become discouraged because the content seems so useless. They are much more interested in their everyday lives than things like the Pythagorean Theorem. I try to break that barrier - to help students see how the things they learn in school can help them solve problems in the real world. I do this by making lessons creative, interesting and fun.
I have over 5 years of experience tutoring numerous middle and high school students in math, english, science and history. I mainly specialize in math (Basic skills, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus). ACT is one of my top subjects! I have experience I'm ACT one on one test prep and started a small group June 14 of 3-4 students that enhanced the review process with the benefit of utilizing the motivation that peers can provoke as well as maintaining the individual attention that tutoring provides!

I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.
I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that children learn best when the material is most tangible to them. When teaching or tutoring, I make a huge effort to incorporate the students' names into math problems. I make it my goal to find out as much as I can about the students, and then put them in those environments in an imaginative way in some sort of math problem. I am extremely patient with my students, and appreciate gaining knowledge from their statements and insights. When appropriate, manipulatives are wonderful tools as well. Hands-on learners sometimes need to have creative input and control over the situation, and manipulatives allow the student and me to model the problem in a whole new way.

I always attempt to explain the beauty of mathematics to my students in hopes that they will develop the same admiration of the logic and order of mathematics and science. My tutoring will generally involve a brief explanation of theory and background, followed by one or two fully worked examples (if applicable). Then exercise problems or homework questions will be worked by the student. I encourage students to memorize the procedure of a solution. However, I always ensure that the student understands why steps are being taken in a given solution, and is not simply blindly following a solution procedure.
