EXPERIENCED IN ACT PREP AND ALTERNATIVE LEARNING STUDENTS...
  • Albuquerque, NM 87123
  • Female Age 41
  • Will travel up to 50 miles
  • Rates from $15 to $30 /hr
  • On-line In-Home In-Group
  • Terms: Nothing is permanent and without negotiation. I want to help those who need help and be compensated fairly and reasonably. I also have incentive opportunities to get reduced rates. We will work out the details as we go along, but my first priority is helping students with their needs while still maintaining my ability to pay my bills (or I would be to hungry to tutor! :)) Travel is all dependent on our willingness to compromise and if I have another reason to go into the region where you are located then there is no need to charge mileage, and if I do it will be the actual amount spent on gas, not 50 cents a mile or some outrageous unfair amount. I would take the miles to and from and enter them into the fuel cost calculator on mapquest with my make and model to get an exact amount. I am honest first and foremost. I am confident that is enough for your to determine if I can be of help. I will let you know if I can't help due to any reason when I know. It could be after a few session and I find that we don't click or in the beginning when I see the material is over my head. THanks! Katy

Teaching Style

I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.

My Hobbies

Coin buying/selling Scrap-booking Grant writing for the purpose of achieving social justice and ending poverty and oppression

Other Comments

I like to prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing the subject matter in direct correlation to what you are struggling with. This ensures that when we meet we are ready to effectively and efficiently improve your knowledge and clarify any confusion.

Top Subjects

Math
Elementary-Algebra I use methods that Shanghai uses to teach math skills (Shanghai, China has the number one math scores in the world)

Composition
Proficiency: Expert
I have tutored students in comp 1 & 2 throughout their entire semesters every step of the way. I also had to take these classes as all college students do !

English
Proficiency: Expert, and one of my top Subjects!
I have experience in tutoring students with dyslexia, dysgraphia and ADD in writing papers, ACT , and as far as comp 1&2

Grammar
Proficiency: Expert
In the ESL and regular reading writing and college English composition classes grammar is always the same! I actually have the most experience in English ( writing papers, ESL, ACT prep, dyslexia, reading, sentence structure, and other grammar ). I have had the most students in this genre and of all types.

ACT
Proficiency: Expert, and one of my top Subjects!
I have experience I'm ACT one on one test prep and started a small group June 14 of 3-4 students that enhanced the review process with the benefit of utilizing the motivation that peers can provoke as well as maintaining the individual attention that tutoring provides!

GED
Proficiency: Expert
Standardized tests prep is my favorite type of tutoring sessions because it enhances knowledge a student already has. I teach them to utilize that knowledge to develop skills that can be useful over an entire spectrum of things. It is exciting to see how suprised some students are at their own innate skills in subjects they felt were their weakest.

Special Education
Proficiency: Experienced, and one of my top Subjects!
I have worked with a number of different students with various diagnoses including autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and more. I don't believe in"learning disabilities"because it indicates one is "unable" to learn. This is not the case. Students learn in their own way and I get to help discover how my students learn along with them. This is the advantage of being a tutor rather than a classroom teacher of 25 Students. Teachers must provide the teaching methods that help promote the learning process in the majority of Students. 20/25 may benefit and the rest are labled "disabled"
