I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have always believed that a good teacher is the best tool to help students learn. Having personal experience with learning disabilities, I do not think that they prevent anyone from learning; rather, they provide students with a better understanding of themselves. Realizing that we all learn differently, I believe that teaching should incorporate multiple methods of presentation. I think that demonstrations and examples, which relate to everyday life, are two of the best methods when learning a new concept. The only teaching experience I have is the student teaching I did at Andrews High School in High Point in 1993 as part of the teaching program at UNC-Greensboro. For several months I taught American Literature and Composition. I have also conducted training classes on new procedures in previous jobs. My goal is to engage each and every student in the classroom in some aspect of the lesson being conducted. Perhaps I can relate the lesson to experiences in their own lives, or I can tap into their knowledge of, or interest in, a particular subject.
