In my college curriculum and internships, I experienced and observed a great deal about people and various styles of processing information. That is, every person has a rather unique way of learning. I would think the most important point to tap into, when tutoring someone, would be to discover how he/she best learns and on what levels. My strongest subject is English and grammatical skills. When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me until he/she is comfortable with me. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins! When I really get a feel for the personality and whatever particular challenges are unique for this person in this class, I am able to determine the best way to communicate the subject and improve the skills. After falling into a tutoring situation in 2007 with a High School AP Biology student, I decided that tutoring may be the right thing for me. I was hired the next year by Advanced Learning Center and tutored K-5 Reading and Math for a total of 11 students. I feel tutoring is a perfect fit for my personality as it is most rewarding to see the direct effect on the children. I really enjoy being involved in the growth of their minds and confidence.
