Portuguese is one of my top subjects!

As well as being a certified TESOL instructor, I graduated from Smith College with a bachelors degree in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and Latin American Studies. My studies focused on language learning, reading, writing, and cultural history and studies in Spanish and Portuguese. I studied abroad in Lisbon, Portugal for one semester and was in intern for a summer in a sustainable village in the jungle of Panama. Before college, I did my gap year in Belo Horizonte, Brazil where I lived with host families and attended high school. I have traveled to 25 countries and have vast experience using my language skills in daily life and immersing myself in the local culture.

As the daughter and sibling of educators, I have been teaching since I was 6 years old; I taught a 4-year old boy to write his name at an inner-city program. As a teenager I tutored a 9-year old girl in math. After graduating college I managed an adult learning center for a local non-profit organization. I currently substitute teach for K-12 in Boulder Valley schools and recently began substitute teaching a Composition course at a community college. Most significantly, however, I have developed unique approaches to reinforcing classroom concepts for my two children with special needs so they can be successful students in light of their non-traditional learning styles.
