Graduate student looking to help students achieve their goals!

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.
I have tutored children off and on since I was in high school. More recently, my time has been spent volunteering with The Giving Tree, where I tutored inner-city children after school and helped organize activities (museums, zoo, etc.) on the weekends. I am currently in the ... read more

I have substitute taught for 2 years in all grades. I must be flexible, creative and outgoing while constantly adapting to new surroundings. I excel at drawing, writing and reading. Everyone learns in different ways so it's important to me that I get to know the students first. That way I can differentiate the lessons for each student. I have also learned that students are more engaged when it's a subject matter that they care about. Of course it's not realistic that this will always be the case. Sometimes you have to learn things that you are not interested in, but approaching these subjects from the ... read more

I will only be taking elementary kids as students!

I'll only be taking elementary kids as students, I can tutor/help them with studies for 1/2 hours every weekday.
I am currently enrolled in highschool but I tutored many of my cousins for the past several years so I'm great with young kids! I don't have any proper work experience but I'm hoping this will be my first.I have volunteered at many elementary schools and I can speak fluent Hindi and Bengali. So I can communicate with specific kids on a more casual and easier way if necessary.

My comments on tutoring Drawing : I can assist in basic drawing skills: Perspective, Composition, depth, figure drawing, etc.

Recently began tutoring elementary level math and reading, and am loving it. I have found that I thoroughly enjoy working with the children, and find it very rewarding, and enriching. I am looking to expand my experience, develop new techniques and improve on them while helping people learn, with a genuine interest in their success.
I am positive, honest and will give a lot of encouragement. I want those who I am tutoring to feel rewarded while learning, I want to help my "tutorees" to enjoy learning, and build confidence.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to help make student's successful by understanding their learning style. I have had the good fortune of working with myriad learning styles in a special needs environment, (in the home and classroom) which runs from autistic spectrum disorder to talented and gifted. Working with this huge array of kids has really opened my eyes to a variety of learning tools to ensure success. I am also very enthusiastic and children always find me to be relatable, despite where they are coming from in their academic process.
I began working in the school setting in February, 2002. Initially I worked as a teacher's aide in the special education (K-5) classroom environment. Shortly after, I began to tutor after-school hours for one of the special needs students. The "parent network" took off and soon I was tutoring five students per week. In 2004, I returned to school for ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love being able to make learning fun and exciting. I believe the key to being able to acquire a second language, develop reading skills, or improve artistic abilities, is to find the reasons why it's interesting to the individual student. Art, literature, and French language are my greatest passions. I am patient, flexible, and enthusiastic. My hope is that I can encourage my students to be excited about learning and become a person who seeks knowledge.
After I received my BA in French, with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language, I worked for the Institute of Reading Development to teach reading comprehension, skills, and appreciation. In the fall of 2005, I moved to France for two years where I taught English in elementary schools in Montauban, as well as in a middle school and high school in Mirande. Upon returning to the United States, I taught French for two years ... read more

I recently graduated with honors from PSU and have a strong desire to work with and help children. I have a passion for literacy and believe it has the power to change lives. I am a single mom of a 14-year-old son and have also volunteered with the African Women’s Coalition to tutor African Refugee children. Working with the children transformed my life and taught me the importance of knowledge.
I am known for my amazing listening skills and empathy. I am a student of Non-violent communication and use it at every opportunity. I love to teach with symbolism and visual techniques. Most of all I find it is important to listen to the child and see how they need to be taught and adjust to their comfort levels. I feel that patience and compassion for different cultures is also key to the student’s success.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach people of all ages, developing great relationships. My belief system says that ALL students need to be set up for success, as success breeds success. Throughout my teaching experience, I have found that students need a different model of learning from the 'one-size-fits-all' delivery system, which requires that all children learn the same thing at the same time regardless of what their individual needs are. The best way to describe my approach to teaching would be 'complex instruction', which falls under the umbrella of 'differentiated instruction'. Complex instruction is a strategy that was developed to address the various ranges of academic abilities while being culturally and linguistically heterogeneous. Equity of learning opportunity for all students is the objective of this teaching strategy.
I have been very passionate about teaching struggling students, particularly in the area of reading. From 2000-2004, I taught strugglin ... read more
