I worked as a synthetic organic chemist at Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company for five years. I spent the next 20+ years as a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler, teaching my three children from kindergarten until they graduated from high school.(My two oldest are now college graduates and the third is presently in college.) During my years of homeschooling, I taught both chemistry and biology to high school students in our homeschool group. I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free. I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.

As an engineer and manager, training employees was an integral component of work performed throughout my ten-year professional career.
