Experience Summary
I worked as a synthetic organic chemist at Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company for five years. I spent the next 20+ years as a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler, teaching my three children from kindergarten until they graduated from high school.(My two oldest are now college graduates and the third is presently in college.) During my years of homeschooling, I taught both chemistry and biology to high school students in our homeschool group. I have also tutored friends who were in nursing programs and struggling with chemistry. I enjoy algebra and geometry and have done some tutoring in each subject. I taught English as a Second Language for five years to members of the Hispanic community in Columbus.
Teaching Style
I love helping others overcome obstacles to understanding, and showing them that they have the ability to do what they thought was impossible. I believe in building upon a solid foundation so that the student really learns and understands the concepts of a subject (and doesn’t just shoot for a passing grade). I like to discuss the material and include additional background information because that helps make the subject more interesting. Where formulas, memorization and/or calculations are involved, I will explain, practice, check for understanding and practice again. I believe that I am a patient and enthusiastic teacher who has had many satisfied students in the past.
