I love helping others overcome obstacles to understanding, and showing them that they have the ability to do what they thought was impossible. I believe in building upon a solid foundation so that the student really learns and understands the concepts of a subject (and doesn’t just shoot for a passing grade). I graduated in May, 2010 from Indiana University with a BS in Biology and a minors in Environmental Management and African American Diaspora Studies. Through my biology curriculum I took many math, chemistry, biology and physics classes. I have excelled especially in chemistry, biology, and algebra and I have experience tutoring in high school level chemistry and math. I began college as an engineering major, so I have background in advanced mathematics and physics. I went on to change my major to psychology where I gained knowlege of social and behavioral sciences, as well as research technologies and statistical analysis. Since graduating college with a B.A. in psychology, I have worked as a psychology researcher, accounting assistant, and in 3 different roles for an international pharmaceutical company. Through my job experience, I have gained knowledge in different business disciplines and areas such as Lean/Six Sigma and Supply Chain/Logistics planning.

I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.
I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free.
