FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY TUTOR (K-12) mdonasci@fau.edu

I use a Reciprocal/Practice based tutoring style. This an effective method because it allows me to interact with the student and help them grow more efficiently while holding an open discussion environment in each lesson. I then reinforce it with practice based assignments which are followed up with reviews in the beginning of the following class. This makes the student not only memorize definitions, but to also understand the reasoning behind different concepts.
Business student at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts with honors in the visual arts, specializing in Architecture and Mathematics. I have also tutored for 4 years now while in school by teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from the ages of 5-20.

My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : Although I am well versed in this specific test and all of the skills that are assessed therein, this test will be phased out along with the FCAT in 2014. Its replacement has yet to be identified, but it will probably be designed to assess the requirements of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) that are being fully implemented this school year in lieu of the Florida Sunshine Standards. See my description under Writing for a general picture of a tutoring plan for writing. All tutoring plans are individualized to meet the needs of the student.

I believe that everyone can learn; that we are all life long learners and that patience and encouragement are key to a successful academic experience for all who seek to improve their skills. I further believe in focusing on the strengths of my students and individualizing materials and activities to meet the needs of the student.

You have to be odd to be number one!

In the future, I want to work with kids, helping them to become successful and self expressive. I believe this is a good experience for both the children and I in helping us further on with our goals. I love working with kids and only want to help! Math comes extremely easy to me and I can teach anyone with patience and persistence. I am also good with writing and reading. I can really relate to children who struggle with comprehension because as a young child, I struggled very much with it. I believe that I can help even more by viewing their struggles from their perspectives.
I have little experience in tutoring. However, I have always helped my younger sister as well as some children I have babysat in the past. Even thought I have little experience, that is exactly why I am on this site. I crave the experience of working with children and helping them succeed! They have so much ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Right out of college I worked as a substitute teacher and then as a para-professional for 3-4 years with both learning support and emotional support students. Upon moving to Florida I accepted a third grade teaching position for St. Lucie County and have been doing that since 2007. I also tutored throughout this school year for a first grade and a third grade student.
I like teaching hands on and finding out with the student is into to help them connect with the area they are having trouble with. I like to make learning fun as well as applicable to real life situations so they can see how it applies to them.

I believe all students can improve and achieve. I think a tutor must bring enthusiasm and skill to the table when working with students. A tutor must be encouraging and have a refined set of social skills to relate to administrators, parents, and the student. I strive to make all students wiser and more confident as they complete each tutoring session.
I am a licensed and certified school psychologist in private practice. Currently, I am supervising 8 teachers for an SAT company and also teaching the Verbal component of this course. I have been working in the field of education for over 20 years. During the last five years I have been tutoring children with special needs in basic skills and organizational areas. I have also tutored students from preschool to sixth grade in all academic areas.

In my instructional career, I have demonstrated the ability to develop complete curricula for a variety of courses and influence student improvement through quality lectures, discussions, assignments, and assessments. I hold a strong passion for teaching and am always teaching in a very positive and enthusiastic manner.
After college, I lived in Spain for a while where I taught Spanish children how to speak English. It was then that I realized that I needed to be a teacher. I went to Graduate School at night and taught Spanish to grades Kindergarten through 8th. I did this for five years. When I decided to move to Florida, I wanted to test out being an Elementary classroom teacher. It was a great fit and I love it.

I have had the opportunity to observe all levels and exceptionalities of education. I believe that each student has a unique learning style and unique interests. Therefore, it is my job as a teacher to tailor a lesson in a way that makes it relatable and comprehensible to each student.
