I hold a variety of Montana teaching edorsements: K-12 Library, 5-12 English, Broadfield Social Sciences (5-12), K-12 Physical Education and Health, and History (5-12). Over the last seventeen years I have primarily taught Language Arts and history classes at the junior high and high school level in a variety of Montana school districts and in one in Nevada. I have also been an assistant and head junior high and high school football, wrestling, and track and field coach. I believe in having all my students understand that hard work and perseverance will help them achieve passing scores in my classes while exhibiting good moral conduct and behavior. I have educated both college and middle school students, and through these experiences I learned that the key to effectively teaching others is patience. By being patient, I give the students the opportunity to problem solve on their own, which ultimately builds confidence. With more confidence, students seem to learn better. Both positions required hands on instruction in the basics of rhetorical theory as well as extensive research and writing. There are many ways for children to learn, and the most effective method that I have used is to establish a basic foundation and then build upon that. My five year old son, Paul, is already reading and writing becuase I have worked patiently with him for the last few years. Simple rewards like a 'high five' may seem silly, but any type of positive reinforcement helps to keep attention focused on the work at hand, and makes children enjoy what they are doing.
