My teaching style is like a coach. I show the student the method to solve the problem and then I observe, correct and praise the student while he/she solves similar problems. It is important to explain the underlining principle in the problem so the student will be able to solve similar problems without just memorizing a few rules. I try to use the best learning style (verbal, logical, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc) that fits each student.

A Little Bit About Me...

One year prior to my doctoral degree I began teaching at the University level. At the same time I was teaching as a substitute at the elementary, middle school, and high school level, while acting as Superintendent of the preschool education program at our church. Throughout my career I have chosen to work with organizations focused on collaborative scientific efforts across disciplines to discover cures for diseases, to understand the mechanisms behind those diseases in order to improve health and prevent disease, and that allowed me to continue teaching. In high school, I tutored mathematics at Alexander Children's Center. Many of the children were abused at home, creating difficult challenges initially. However, I was able to work through some of these challenges by creating a calm and understanding environment, but also by establishing a routine. Today, I continue to volunteer at the Center as a basketball coach and can honestly say that I love working with children. I realize that tutoring for children without emotional problems will be entirely different, but I believe the fundamentals of my approach will improve the performance of my students.
