I believe a solid foundation is the key th success.

I began working with pre-k age group as a lead teacher for the four year olds room. After leaving that placement I started working with high school aged students as a substitute. Working with these young adults reinforced my belief that if a student does not have the basic skills learned early in their education, it is very difficult to go back and relearn them. A Little Bit About Me...

Have never tutored anyone before aside from helping my younger sister with her homework. I completed high school with a 3.5 GPA and am currently preparing to start my 2nd year of community college. Math has always been my best subject. In 11th grade I was enrolled in Algebra II honors, I then took a pre-college algebra course in 12th grade, took a similar course my first semester of college, and then took college algebra. I learned to read when I was 3 or 4 which was earlier than most people I was around. I finished in 16th place in my 5th grade spelling bee finals. Would have gone farther but I mistook course for coarse.
I like to be fun. I don't want to be the teacher/tutor that nobody likes. I want kids to be excited to see me every day. I want to be the guy that 20 years from now, they look back on their lives and remember me and what I was able to do for them.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Grammar : I liked learning grammar, so I enjoy teaching it. There are so many fun ways to teach it now through games, songs, Marker Mania, to name a few. According to research, it should also be taught in context vs isolation. My area of expertise is in K-2.

My training was based on accepting the child where he/she was and to provide developmentally appropriate activities that were hands on and based on the needs and interests of the child. In a classroom, I would differentiate activities to engage all children whether they were visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. In tutoring sessions I can easily personalize each lesson to the child's learning style and needs. I begin by assessing where the child is at, build on what they know, and create new challenges to move them to where they need to be. It is so rewarding to watch them grow into confident learners.
