Elementary Tutor

I was an early childhood classroom teach for 1 1/2 years. Recently,like focusing on individual students I learned that working in a whole group classroom is not for me. I and helping them more in depth. I still have a huge passion for teaching and am going back to school in the spring to specialize in reading. I have also had experiences in childcare for 10 years. I have been a camp counselor for 3 years for ages 8-14.

Every child can learn, but they don't all learn the same way

I have been teaching for over 10 years. I am currently a second grade teacher. I tutor during the summers and have students of all ages, including middle school and high school. I believe all children can learn. It takes a special teacher to find out how a child learns and create lessons to engage that learning style. What works for one student doesn't always work for every student. I am a loving and positive teacher by nature. I like to bring worksheets and activities to keep the lessons interesting. I also prefer to assign homework, creative writing prompts, and spelling quizzes to improve writing composition and reading comprehension.
I tutored my high school peers informally (without pay) as the President of the English Club at Guthrie Public High School, but I have recently started tutoring middle grade children as well as high school students. I scored a 31 on my ACT, was awarded the Smithsonian English Award, and I am currently enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma as a Creative Writing major. My tutoring subjects include English, Reading, Writing Skills, and Study Skills for middle grade children. A Little Bit About Me...

Love working with children to help enhance their reading ability. I have worked through various reading tutor programs such as Freedom School and One on One Learning. I enjoyed every minute of it! It is important for children to master this skill to be able to function in everyday life situations. I have constructed lesson plans and activities that went along with the book of the week to help with the understanding the plot of the story.
I believe the best teaching style is to pay attention to the needs of the student and work diligently with them to reduce frustration they may be feeling. I am here to help that is my main goal and concern is that the child strengthens their reading abilities.
