In 1994 my family and I move to San Jose, Costa Rica to begin studing Spanish at the Spanish Language Training Institute called, CINCEL, in San Jose, Costa Rica. We spent a year of intensive liguistics training which enabled us to start teaching in Spanish the following year. We ended up spending the next 10 years teach in 3 different countries in Central America. Upon returning to the states I became the High School Spanish teacher at Oklahoma Christian School in Edmond, OK. Formal training has taught me that the more you converse using the language and not using your voice the more you retain and learn the language. I like to focus on one specfic aspect per session be it finger spelling or vocabulary or idioms, ETC. If the student has a test coming up we can chnage it up to focus on the topics of that test. But over all i think learning a language should be fun and relaxed. I interpreted for 6-8th graders at Hoover middle school for two years. I have interpreted at church now for the last 4 years.
