I worked for Panther Academic Support Services at UW Milwaukee from Sept 2007 to May 2011. I tutored students individually and in group settings in math and science courses. I have worked with students from all academic backgrounds. I began tutoring algebra to incoming freshmen. I tutored calculus to business students and I tutored physics to students studying health science. I have found that it takes multiple ways of presenting a topic for students to have a expert grasp of the subject.
I have a conversational teaching style. I emphasize the thought process that facilitates problem solving and conceptual understanding that lies behind all math and science subjects.

Graduate student looking to help students achieve their goals!

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.
I have tutored children off and on since I was in high school. More recently, my time has been spent volunteering with The Giving Tree, where I tutored inner-city children after school and helped organize activities (museums, zoo, etc.) on the weekends. I am currently in the ... read more

Let's start working together to reach your goals of success!

My teaching style is fun: relaxed and engaging for my students and for me too. I am serious about giving my clients the best and richest learning situation as possible. I use a modality designed just for that student and perhaps not offered at school. Since I am in a one on one setting I can ideally focus on just that one student's personal needs. I communicate clearly with all stake holders to ensure I am meeting the learner's needs and expectations. I know some of our relationships will be short term to get past an academic challenge and others may be longer to meet your needs. Whatever the length or circumstances I want it to be the best, positively memorable and educationally worthwhile experience for my student.
Throughout my successful career as a teacher and school counselor, I've instructed every level from kindergarten to college level. Likewise I've had the privilege of ... read more

Preparing Today for a Successful Tomorrow

I love teaching and working with children. I tutor full time. Teaching is my passion. I can set your child on the road to success. My students see entire grade level jumps in just a few hours of tutoring. I believe all children can reach their potential if they are given the appropriate tools and learning experiences. I use manipulatives and games to help make learning fun and to reinforce concepts. I offer a relaxed and gentle approach to learning that takes the child at his own pace and gives him every chance to succeed. I tutor students in Writing through the college level. I had my first story published in a children's magazine at the age of 10 years. I still publish articles today and I'm now working on a nonfiction book that I hope to get published soon. I changed from being a registered pharmacist to teaching because I so enjoy seeing students learn, especially when they "get it". I had to be especially aware that online students require a different learning paradigm than on-campus F2F students. I would give as much time as needed to an interested student. Teaching online also involved ESL students, which required cross-cultural awareness.

Graduating from three different institutions, I have earned two master and a bachelor degrees – MS in Biology and MA in Special Education, and BA in Biology. Math and Science have my main strengths in earning the degrees. Being deaf since birth, I have learned a lot about deaf people – especially children with their delayed language and math skills. I want to give something back of what I have excelled in education. Many people and children deserve the education and help they need in order to make progress in math.
Teaching for 11 years in deaf education, I have enjoyed seeing a growth in my students’ math academic progress in middle school and high school level. Most children who are deaf have a delay in language learning. A deaf child who uses sign language, English is not their first language. Math, reading, and writing are the three academic subjects that require special goal ... read more

My teaching style is to help make student's successful by understanding their learning style. I have had the good fortune of working with myriad learning styles in a special needs environment, (in the home and classroom) which runs from autistic spectrum disorder to talented and gifted. Working with this huge array of kids has really opened my eyes to a variety of learning tools to ensure success. I am also very enthusiastic and children always find me to be relatable, despite where they are coming from in their academic process.
I began working in the school setting in February, 2002. Initially I worked as a teacher's aide in the special education (K-5) classroom environment. Shortly after, I began to tutor after-school hours for one of the special needs students. The "parent network" took off and soon I was tutoring five students per week. In 2004, I returned to school for ... read more

I enjoy tutoring, especially with motivated people. I have much experience in translating difficult academic problems to meaningful skills. I still don't have my times tables memorized but can demonstrate difficult fractions and imaginary numbers to others. My experience in laboratory, design and classroom settings allows me to illustrate complex concepts meaningfully. I enjoy working one-on-one to help facilitate deeper understanding. I would consider working with special needs children or those with learning disabilities.
I have had experience in tutoring mathematics at local community colleges. I have also tutored chemistry, physics and many medical subjects informally. I have finished classwork in a medical program and have assisted with many classes, mostly in physiology related courses.

I changed my major in college because I knew English was my calling. I have a Bachelor's degree from Warner Pacific. I enjoyed my classes and did extremely well. I am a perfectionist who pays great attention to detail. I love to read, write and create. I have always wanted to work as a tutor.
