A Little Bit About Me...

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in second grade. I think it is so important for children to be successful in school so they enjoy their experience and want to go to school. I believe that all children learn in different ways and I will work with you and and your child to help discover how they learn best. I will then create lessons based on their learning style, such as hands on learning. By doing this I have found that children are more successful when they learning in a way that works best for them.
I have a Minnesota teaching license in PreK age 3-K, Elementary Education K-6, and Middle School Math 5-8. I have returned to college twice to add additional licenses to continue my education. I have taught art to students since 1981. High school students have been my assistants through the summer youth employment program, for 3 NYC public mural projects. I have taught as an artist-in the-schools since 1985, teaching grammar school students printmaking and mural making, both in Brooklyn NY and in the Hudson Valley. Most recently, I taught homeschooled students drawing and painting in the New Paltz area of the Hudson Valley, NY.
I teach with a focus on self exploration plus knowledge of natural forms. In other words, I encourage students to express themselves in their own unique way, yet I teach all the natural forms, including fauna and flora, perspective and the human form, by drawing examples. I help students master the ability to draw what they see, encouraging composition, color, shading and personal style.
