I find that many of the problems that students have with mathematics are not a result of an inability to understand the subject, but an inability to grasp the material as presented by the teacher, and a resulting disinterest. I like to spend the first couple of meetings with the student assessing how they learn best and giving them some tricks that lead to success in an area that has given them a lot of trouble. Through their success, we can build interest in the subject, and through understanding their learning patterns, we can present the material in a way that makes sense to them. The result of this method is that the subject becomes easier for the student to understand, and the applications make it more interesting to the student.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education Mathematics at the State University of New York at Oswego and became a high school mathematics teacher in New York for two years. I decided to pursue a Master’s Degree at Northern Arizona University in Mathematics Education and was assigned a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, in which I taught university level mathematics classes for three years. A Little Bit About Me...

As a newly graduate from Northern Arizona University, I earned a BS in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology also 3 minors including: Mathematics, Spanish, and Chemistry. Over the past four years I have gained the understanding in various studies. Also I have written many research papers and laboratory reports in the sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Forestry. I have tutored High School students in math for AIMS and a high school student in Biology.
I enjoy working with children, young adults, and adults. Teaching others in any way is beneficial for them and in the long run for me. I am a friendly and patient person that cares about the education of others and myself. Learning can be difficult at times and a tutor or teacher might be needed. I returned to school part time in 1998 to work on a degree in physics. As a non-traditional student I was in my 30's, a single parent (three daughters), and working full time as an industrial sales rep. In 2005 I graduated with honors from New Mexico Tech with BS degrees in Physics/Astrophysics and Basic Sciences. Upon graduation I took a position as an instructor, grades 5-12, at a science camp in California for 2 semesters. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been employed as an Astronomer/Observer with M.I.T.'s Lincoln labs LINEAR program, searching for near Earth asteroids.
