Humorous experienced tutor with unconventional methods!

My approach is a little different using humor to destress students. I believe in each student understanding the underlying concepts via instruction, physical materials and hands-on activities. I have a lot of patience. I love working with different and even difficult and shy students.
I am a seasoned veteran tutor, and I enjoy, no love, mentoring, teaching, volunteering, training, or instructing almost as a hobby! I am especially passionate about career education and counseling as well as psychology and mathematics. Oooh and English too! My teaching experience began at a Riverside County Probation Facility for Wards of the court in Banning California. I began there as a Building Maintainance Mechanic and worked my way up to a vocational education teacher. After that I worked at St. Johns School for boys in Cabazon California. While I lived in California I also worked at a Christian High School called Joshua Springs High School where I began teaching a free small wood Shop class and worked my way up to a regular teacher. In all these cases I taught multi-aged multi subjecr classes. When I moved to Arizona I worked for several years at Legacy School in Mesa. There I also taught multi-aged multi-subject classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I had such a hard time learning and focusing in a regimented, institutional-type learning setting in school, and yet was a brilliant child, I teach extremely well in a relational more relaxed approach. Rather than "shove information down throats" I am interested in each individual, and to get to know their personality and learning style. I have found that when there is relationship and trust between the mentor and the student, not only does the student learn the information more effectively, but as the mentor, I am able to teach and speak more clearly. Rather than lecturing or preaching at them about what I think life should be like for them, I take them hiking, out to eat, to movies etc.

I enjoy the challenge of teaching music to children and adults of all experience levels. As a teacher, I find that I constantly have to adapt my teaching style to accommodate different student’s needs. Musically, I encourage the student to go in whatever direction they like, but fundamentally I have strict guidelines that I motivate all my students to meet. For example, I support a student’s decision to learn to improvise a blues song, or play a melody from a symphony equally. I am well versed in all styles of music and feel I can provide them the necessary materials to explore and develop their preferred genre.
