I do stay consistent in coaching through how to problem solve because I don’t want my students to become dependent upon me. They need to learn how to utilize all resources when studying both independently and in a group setting. At San Juan College I work with students who have struggle with math and most of which lack confidence in their ability to succeed in the subject. I enjoy working one on one with a wide variety of students - those with solid backgrounds in mathematics, as well as those who have had difficulties with mathematics their entire lives. In fact, I believe that one of the biggest reasons a child/teen/adult needs tutoring in mathematical sciences often stems from something missing in their early years of learning math. I can tutor any aged person. I enjoy getting the student to relate - what is often an uncomfortable subject for them - to the real world and to enhance their own personal future opportunities. I work hard to get the student to become self-reliant and to teach them that "just concentrating and doing it" is half of the battle. For one year, I also tutored after school to earn extra money. I have also taught in California and Santa Fe, NM.
