I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Math classes included Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations and Matrices, and Engineering Math. My MS in Engineering Management included several classes in Statistics and Probabilities. I tutored middle school students 12 hours per week for two years at Ramstein Middle School, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. I believe that each student is different, and that the best teaching method differs with each student. Some students respond better to being challenged while others will require smaller steps. The goals of the students also vary, some needing only to pass while others need a solid foundation in anticipation of further study. I believe I can tailor instruction to the students' needs.

I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I am very patient with students of all ages and have an ability to get them to grasp fundamental concepts. My tutoring style is one of getting students to think critically and creatively and to see the fundamental patterns for successful problem solving. I do not just give students the answer to questions or a slick heuristic method for solving a particular problem. Rather I try to get them to think for themselves so that they will be able to solve problems of a wide variety on their own. I also like to teach students how to see a "picture" of the problem at hand and various ways of graphically representing a problem, and that there are usually several different approaches to solving the same problem. My style is patient, respectful, fair and adaptive. The goal is to find what works well for the student, not take a rigid one-size-fits-all approach that a classroom may employ. I start looking right away for “What is missing?” I have seen many students who are perfectly capable but struggle because they missed a fundamental building block. Learning is always difficult. I have never taught a subject, physics, mathematics or philosophy, at a level that was beyond the abilities of any student who really wanted to master the material, and I don't think I'd be interested at teaching at that level. Many students are not able to master these subjects in school, but quite often it is not due to a lack of desire on their part, but instead a lack of sufficient preparation due most often to poor prior instruction. I have always been successful in helping students I tutor in overcoming their deficiencies in this area, regardless of the subject. I wanted very much to teach at the Liberal Arts College level but was unable to secure a full-time, permanent position. I am a recent Economics graduate with a Math minor (more than 30 units of math) I've tutored at Jefferson H.S. in Edgewater CO in 2006 and am a former Marine in the communications field with years of instructional experience.
