Experience Summary
I began as an English major then graduated in Physics with honors, cutting edge research experience in both academia and industry, as a published writer, photojournalist and poet. As a result, I can understand why some very intelligent people who perform well with the arts can sometimes be frustrated by the math and sciences, and vice versa.
I have previous experience as a private tutor and trainer in industry settings. I have researched alternative energy and biomedical devices so I can answer the question “Will I ever use this?” by citing real world examples.
I teach physics, multiple forms of math and writing. I enjoy watching a student’s face light up with that “Now I get it!” expression.
Teaching Style
My style is patient, respectful, fair and adaptive. The goal is to find what works well for the student, not take a rigid one-size-fits-all approach that a classroom may employ. I start looking right away for “What is missing?” I have seen many students who are perfectly capable but struggle because they missed a fundamental building block. Learning is always difficult. This is normal and I make sure students remember that. There is a balance to be struck where the student is pushing hard enough to improve but not so hard that they withdraw from the learning process.
