I have never had formal experience tutoring. However Throughout my years of schooling I would participate in study groups which I see as everyone tutoring eachother. I also have two siblings, one very close in age and the other is approximately four years younger. Needless to say, I frequently helped my younger sister with her homework. Just to clarify when I say 'help' I do not mean I just gave her the answers, I would make sure that I either explained or demonstrated the correct way to approach a problem in order to make sure that she understood how to apply the knowlege come test time. I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem. I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University. I'm currently working on a second Bachelors degree in mathematics, but this time with an emphasis in Actuarial Science.
