My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Phonics has been very helpful teaching reading especially with ESL students.

Denver Summer Scholars - Lead computer tutor - Taught 3 classes a day with 15 students in each class. I used computer software to tutor students in math and language arts. My students were ESL at Risk students. Tree of Knowledge - I tutored 15 students during the 2011 to 2012 school year in Language Arts and Math. My students increase their pre tutoring scores by a minimum of 25%. My students included at risk and special ed students in first to fifth grade. This was one on one tutoring. My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable.
