My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Phonics has been very helpful teaching reading especially with ESL students.

Denver Summer Scholars - Lead computer tutor - Taught 3 classes a day with 15 students in each class. I used computer software to tutor students in math and language arts. My students were ESL at Risk students. Tree of Knowledge - I tutored 15 students during the 2011 to 2012 school year in Language Arts and Math. My students increase their pre tutoring scores by a minimum of 25%. My students included at risk and special ed students in first to fifth grade. This was one on one tutoring. I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.
My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
