Interactive immersion. My students enjoy a safe, comfortable, and fun learning experience. In the classroom, I apply the "flipped" classroom teaching methodology. Since the year 2000, I have taught and tutored middle school, high school, college, and adults in the public school systems, the private sector and most recently at the University of Vermont. I have attended ACTFL (American Council on Teaching Foreign Language) conventions around the country to stay on top of the latest teaching technologies in order to provide optimal learning opportunities for my students. I have designed French courses for innkeepers, executives, and for travelers. I enjoy teaching and tutoring students of all ages.

I am a recent grad of Brandeis University and scored a 170 on the LSAT (97th percentile). The LSAT is an extremely difficult test and requires a specific method of thought for success. I am well-versed on the different approaches that can get students poised for a great score on the LSAT and have previous tutoring experience.

I am studying Secondary Math Education at the University of Vermont. I am a senior and I have completed all of my education and math requirements for my degree. In the spring I will be student teaching in one of the local schools. Last year, I spent over 100 hours in the classroom observing and teaching. This year, I am in a middle school classroom 2 hours a week teaching math to English Language Learners. I also spend time tutoring students in the local teen centers in Burlington. Over the summer, I worked at the Montshire Museum in Norwich, VT at a summer camp teaching children about aquatic biology and how to make inventions. After I earn my degree at UVM, I am planning on becoming a high school math teacher.

I am a strong believer in leading by example. When given a task, I fulfill it to the best of my abilities, taking responsibility for it's completion and encourage those around me to do the same. As opposed to criticizing, I focus on the positive aspects of people's abilities and build confidence with that foundation. With that said, I do maintain high but reasonable expectations while providing the support necessary for success. I served in the Straight Up AmeriCorps as a member for two years, specializing in tutoring and mentoring in a high school setting. I was responsible for teaching and leading programs for students as well as organizing events. Once completed, I was hired by a local non-profit to administer services and manage a Family Literacy program for 20 families. My duties included direct mentoring and tutoring, as well as identifying and implementing learning programs based

Every one can learn. Sometimes an individual learns in their own unique style and finding that style is the key to teaching them. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. The amount of pride and prestige that comes from having figured out a problem on their own is the most important thing. I've always loved to read, I inhereited it from my father who got it from his father. I'm an avid writer as well. I currently write book reviews for The San Francisco Book Review and the San Diego Book Review. You'll find samples of my work at http://www.thereadingcan.blogspot.com . I really feel I can help youth and young adults learn to read. Currently I work with individuals who have disabilities to find and maintain work. I would like to help youth and young adults with disabilities learn to read as well.

I think that teachers need to be flexible, and be willing to adapt their teaching style to suit the needs of their students. This is especially true for tutors who are often involved in a one-on-one relationship with those they tutor. I'm patient and respectful of the difficulties students have with expressing their thoughts in words. It's not unusual that they get frustrated trying to fit them into what can seem like a formal and obstuctive grammatical framework. Math is also a subject with which people often have difficulty. Being empathetic to their struggles helps to overcome them. My experience has been that most who struggle with it do pretty well with math if they make the effort. I have eight years experience teaching Math at Lyndon State College in Vermont and at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio. I was also a writing tutor at The Writing Center at Lyndon State.

I have earned my bachelor degree in Marine Science with a concentration in Marine Biology. I have always had a passion for the sciences and always knew I wanted to pursue a career within this field. Through my coursework I have extensive knowledge on writing research papers, lab reports, properly handling the responsibilities in group projects, being a leader, and being fully involved in my tasks. I have always worked with children. I have been a part of many volunteer projects surrounding children as well as direct related jobs. I have worked with children with various learning abilities and overall capabilities. I believe it is important for children to have someone to help them understand their educational tasks. I prefer to use fundations with the younger students. Learning each letter and its sound is a critical base. I also like the tapping method used with fundations. After learning each letter and its sound children can tap out each sound to figure out a word. There are trick words like: the, was, of...etc that we use flash cards for. This method worked well with my own son. He was being taught to read using pictures. Over christmas vacation during his kindergarten year we worked using fundations and he gaind four reading levels in a week and a half. I have been working as a para-educator for the past 8 years. I greatly enjoy my work. I have worked with students with disabilities that range form mild learning disabilities to sever, such as autism. I love watching their faces light up when they grasp the concept of what they are trying to learn. I have taken classes at Community College of Ve

In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting. My MA required a publication-ready thesis, which would not have been possible without organization and self-motivation. It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. In a tutoring environment, I believe in discovering each student’s optimal learning strategy, as well as identifying techniques for making other styles of teaching accessible. I aim to enable further education, as well as transmit more urgently needed information.

I have found, through teaching a wide variety of people a wide variety of subjects, that there is no one way to reach someone. Everyone has individual strengths and weaknesses. What I have found, however, is requisite to meet the needs of all students is respect for the learner. Without the requisite respect and encouragement, struggling students find it easy to give up and continue to believe that they aren't able to learn the material being presented. With respect and understanding for the students' needs, along with patience, preparedness and open communication, I feel I am able to reach students who are willing to be reached, and some who initially aren't so willing. I recently graduated in Economics from Bishop's University. In my final year at Bishop's, I taught a couple tutorials to assist students in lower level economics courses. In addition, I succeeded quite well in 4 mathemat
