Motivation is first. Find out what students skills are and add what they like to encourage learning. Games are always good to encourage all ages to learn. Repetition! Once their grades improve their self confidence will too. Lots of heart and patience!
Taught to every age! I was in Europe for 9 years and opened my own American English School. Taught every level from pre-school to Engineers. Also translated and wrote policies and procedures for the European Union REACH program. Taught 3d and 4th grade in Germany. One example: taught English to German elemantary students using the game of baseball to learn new words. My oldest student was 79 years young! The youngest was 4.

I am Dyslexic and approach subjects from a different angle. I use a lot of visual techniques to help the understanding of the objective at hand. I try and figure out what works best for the student. I earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Plymouth State in New Hampshire in 1975. I have 16 years teaching experience at the elementary level teaching 5 years of 2nd grade, 8 years of 4th grade, 1 year of 5th grade, 1 year of 1st grade, and 1 year of 5/6 Language Arts and Science Resource teacher experience. I also taught 1 year at the Junior High level teaching 8th grade Pre-Algebra.

A Little Bit About Me...

I consider my teaching style to be interactive. I like for the student to be constantly involved in the lesson and not just listening. I have found that if the student participates more, the student will learn more quickly. I also believe students enjoy learning more if they have some input into the methods used to teach. I like to give them a few choices for activities to do. The student is more receptive to new material if they feel that they had a choice in how the material was introduced to them.
From Novemeber of 2008 until November of 2009, I was an English Teacher at Wilshire Korea Language School in Busan, South Korea. I taught children from the ages of 7 - 18. We covered conversational English, Reading, Essay writing, and listening comprehension.
