A Little Bit About Me...

I am somewhat new to teaching, though my lack of tenure does not equate to my enthusiasm. My approach is to first find out what the students know about the topic and what comfort level they are at with the material. Once I have gotten a sense of where the student is at in the learning process, we then use their current knowledge as building blocks for future lessons. I graduated with a BS in history in 1996. After nearly seven years working for a large communications corporation I returned to college to get my teaching credentials. I completed a years student teaching and have taught middle school and high school at a local private school. At that school I often tutored students, offered help on my own time, and was the monitor of the school's study hall, Homework Club. Since 2009 I have taught adults at a local technical college. As a teacher, I believe my greatest success comes, not when I set goals for my students and push them towards MY goals, but when I simply facilitate my students pursuit of his/her own personal goals. In my first lesson, I always ask my student what he/she wants to accomplish and work together with them to set short and long term goals that will allow them to pursue learning they way THEY want to. I honorably graduated in May on 2009 with a BA in English and a minor in Business Administration. I was taught linguistically and grammatically in my studies at Regis.
