ACT, SAT and Math Tutoring from a top student

I have tutored in math from 6th through 12th grade previously. I have a 4.5600 GPA and have often helped my fellow students. I have tutored my friend's brother in various subjects, and have been able to work with his ADHD. I took both an SAT and an ACT prep class, and I got a 2190 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT. I also took the SAT Subject Tests and can tutor for those as well.
I prefer to work with motivated students. I enjoy one on one tutoring best, but I can work in a group setting. I think I am best at explaining concepts verbally. Particularly when I tutor math, I like to explain the reasoning and concepts behind what I am teaching, rather than encouraging rote memorization. My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). I enjoy challenges and helping students overcome what seems "impossible". Each time I teach, I become better because students teach me how to teach them. It's important to understand individual interests and how each student approaches problems because everyone is different. For example, creating analogies is an impetus to learning. I tend to treat Math as a Game; how do I (the student) get to the answer? I go over the basics, set up the "plan of attack" to reach a conclusion. It's re-emphasizing the "Rules of the Game". I really want to get the parent(s) involved in this process.
I love tutoring, especially when students get it! The "light bulb" goes on.The most remarks I get are - "why did'nt my teacher show us that way?" I was chosen to teach math at a charter middle school; but the Board of Education (Manatee) voted to shut down that school after three days on the job. Subsequently, I began tutoring Math at Manatee Community College for three years. I've taken several refresher Math courses at MCC (3.66 GPA).
