My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : Taught state test writing preparation for many years in Massachusetts public alternative schools. Tutor extensively to prepare students for state and college exams.

I believe that all students can and will achieve academic success given appropriate instruction; i.e., instruction that is differentiated according to students' specific needs, learning styles, interests, and personal goals. As a classroom teacher and as a personal tutor, I have seen almost miraculous results in a relatively short period of time, both in terms of academic achievement and student confidence. A Little Bit About Me...

Although there are many ways to teach, I strongly believe in Experiential Education. Experiential Education tries to find ways to help the student discover an answer instead of being given an answer and makes learning hands on and relevant to the student's own life. This takes more time and patience,but at the end the student has a real understanding of what they are learning. As long as a student wants to learn, I will do all I can to make learning interesting.
As a student at New College of Florida I studied Literature and Sociology before writing an undergraduate thesis on Outdoor Education. During research for my thesis I studied many educational theories and used them for a camping-education program proposal based on Florida educational standards. After graduating, I spent a year in South Carolina teaching outdoor education to elementary school students.

Active learning is the foundation of my teaching style at all levels. We learn more by experiencing the process first hand rather than being told. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with many types of learners from those not reading at all to those needing just a boost. I understand how to match a child's ability to a given level so he is learning but not frustrated. I believe in a fun and positive learning setting.
