"Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

My comments on tutoring Chess : I know the basic moves and strategies.

I am an honors graduate of U.S.F. with forty years of teaching experience. In addition to my B.A. and M.A. degrees, I completed all cousework for the ED.D. I have taught FCAT preperation in middle school in math and reading. I have also taught GED Prep in the evenings. I taught junior high math one year. I have also written two books. One is a history jokebook. The other is a memoir of humorous classroom incidents. I believe that these experiences qualify me to tutor social studies, reading, and math.
My style is student centered. I always try to provide a positive atmosphere for learning. My jokes were a technique to help accomplish that goal. As a GED teacher I always began with a pretest and documented student progress to correct any deficiencies. I believe in positive reinforcement and helping students achieve their goals which gives us both a sense of accomplishment.

As a kid I was very sickly and had back problems. This forced me to become patient with school. I have developed my own learning style in a way that relates to things that I find relevant. I use this strategy to help others better process information that may at first seem difficult to them. I have tutored elementary school children in basic science as well as college students in organic chemistry.
I graduated college with a degree in Psychology but have much experience in biology and chemistry. I have taken many science classes as I am now awaiting acceptance to University of Florida's Dental School. I am also a certified personal trainer so I am very familiar with anatomy. I have also been playing the guitar and piano for 10 years.

As a graduate of the University of South Florida, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing and write a weekly column on the internet. My desire to be a teacher stems from my love for educating students and encouraging them to nurture their appreciation for literature and the written language. When certain students may lack that appreciation, I relish the challenge of turning their disinterest into interest through books or stories they might enjoy. I have also spent a great deal of time proofreading papers as well as teaching others the basics of computers and computer repair.
For the past two years I have been running and organizing events for adolescents between the ages of ten and twenty-four. Being able to do so has given me a great opportunity to direct and organize young people, as well as to observe how the growing mind operates, all within the confines of a creati ... read more

After graduating cum laude from Yale University with a PhD in Eating, I interned for two years at Dunkin Donuts, fine tuning my skills in eating pastries. I've also spent two summers eating in various food malls, specializing in China One, Chick Fil-A, and Baskin Robins. I have tutored students Overeating, Pizza, and Alka Seltzer.
I believe all children can enjoy eating broccoli. I find this works best if the broccoli is smothered with cheese and accompanied on the plate with something fried. I have found that overeating is a very effective way to teach the student dangerous gastric consequences. I demonstrate this by ordering pizza, allowing them to eat as much as they want, and then immediately afterwards giving them free reign to various quarts of ice cream. I know I can make a difference in every students' stomach.

Students learn best by being lead to discovery. Much of education is developing the ability to not get lost as one learns. I have found that given the time and the data at a proper gradient anyone can learn anything. Finding out what the student already knows and building, with clarity, upon that gives the confidence to learn and the desire to be educated.
I taught for 38 years before retiring. I have taught students from age 3 to age 106. Most of my teaching was with students that had learning problems, such as minorities, the underprivleged, the undereducated and the handicapped. I have a wide variety of skills and interests that makes tutoring fun and interesting for the student. My enthusiasm for life and my upbeat style has always been effective with children and adults of every age. A Little Bit About Me...

I find teaching to be an enriching field that allows me the creativity and flexibility to allow necessary adjustments to the core curriculum based on the student or group of students learning abilities and styles. Every student has a different strength in which they are able to learn, and I believe as a teacher, it is important to recognizes these differences and be able to adjust or adapt to change in a short notice. The end result of an effective lesson plan can bring great reward in terms of a student’s success. As a teacher, I believe that the success of the student should always be the primary focus in the work of an educator, no matter what learning level or background the student has.

It amazes me just how much I enjoy tutoring to all of my students. Each student is different and he or she needs personalized help. My goal is to provide them with what they need to improve their math and/or science skills. My methodology is one that is simple; take is step-by-step. I call it "the method of crab".
I originally studies to become an Industrial Engineer. Currently, I am working to get a second degree; a Master’s of Education. That is why I came to the United States. In the last four years, I have tutored students in all levels and areas of mathematics and sciences. I have had experience with students from elementary school through college.

Having a love of knowledge and learning, I have always been interested in teaching. I tutored other students both officially and unofficially from grade school through college level. Just last year I spent most of the year instructing students in various computer-related subjects. I have always been proficient in Math and Sciences, as well as good knowledge of history, social studies, and all other general subjects.
I enjoy seeing anyone's eyes light up when they learn something new. Everyone has the capacity to learn, and I reflect that by tailoring my teaching style to each individual. In a classroom setting, I am patient and frequently ask questions and wait for students to ask their questions. While the students are working on their exercises, I will answer any questions. I try to get the student to work through the problem him- or herself rather than giving the answer straight ... read more

My teaching style is pretty flexible. Depending on how the child learns affects the way I would work with them. I usually use examples and support the child with help if they are learning something they have never seen before. I do not rush a child to learn a subject. We can try different ways of learning and figure out which is easiest for the student to use. My goal is to make sure the student becomes successful in school. I think I can make learning fun and interesting for young children.
I am currently a student at St. Petersburg College in pursuit of a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. I have taken many specialized courses as to how students learn as well as observing many hours to discover how students learn. I have also worked in multiple after school programs where I have worked in academic atmospheres to promote student learning.

In my opinion good teaching results from years of trial and error and the willingness to learn about teaching from veteran colleagues and from one’s own successes and failures. Teaching is both a science and an art; it is a science in the preparation, pedagogy, methodologies, and assessments; it is an art in the myriad of dynamic interactions that take place in the classroom every day which are affected by the teacher’s actions, class size, student backgrounds, subject area, physical conditions, etc. As in art, part of the attraction to teaching is its inherent complexity that makes it difficult to decompose and describe explicitly, and similar to art - you know the quality when you see it.
