My comments on tutoring Chess : I know the basic moves and strategies.

My style is student centered. I always try to provide a positive atmosphere for learning. My jokes were a technique to help accomplish that goal. As a GED teacher I always began with a pretest and documented student progress to correct any deficiencies. I believe in positive reinforcement and helping students achieve their goals which gives us both a sense of accomplishment.
I am an honors graduate of U.S.F. with forty years of teaching experience. In addition to my B.A. and M.A. degrees, I completed all cousework for the ED.D. I have taught FCAT preperation in middle school in math and reading. I have also taught GED Prep in the evenings. I taught junior high math one year. I have also written two books. One is a history jokebook. The other is a memoir of humorous classroom incidents. I believe that these experiences qualify me to tutor social studies, reading, and math.

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

I have been working at the same local elementary school since November 2006 working with EBD and VE student, tutoring students one on one and in small groups of up to four and five. I have an A.A. degree in General Education and Music and plenty of experience tutoring elementary school age.
I love using manipulatives with all subjects. It makes learning fun even for those that are frustrated with the subject. I believe all children can enjoy eating broccoli. I find this works best if the broccoli is smothered with cheese and accompanied on the plate with something fried. I have found that overeating is a very effective way to teach the student dangerous gastric consequences. I demonstrate this by ordering pizza, allowing them to eat as much as they want, and then immediately afterwards giving them free reign to various quarts of ice cream. I know I can make a difference in every students' stomach.
After graduating cum laude from Yale University with a PhD in Eating, I interned for two years at Dunkin Donuts, fine tuning my skills in eating pastries.
