I often use word games or riddles as rewards for good work. It motivates effort from my students and makes them listen more closely. With my esl students, I made sure to apply new words to their life in order to gain the most retention of the new vocabulary words. The approach I use of ask students to draw from their own lives in order to illustrate meaning and comprehension encourages a dailogue that works well with any vocabulary words for any age group.

If you have the desire to learn then you can learn!

I have worked very hard to go from learning fractions to calculus as an adult and have struggled very much with learning, but now since I have been there, I am able to help many people of all different levels in math to be successfull too! I am all to familiar with the feeling of "I can't learn this subject" "I am not smart enough to do it" I can tell you that anyone can do it with alittle hard work and desire.

I feel that teaching is a dynamic affair; everybody learns a little differently. Knowing this, it is a must to be open with the students allowing them to ask questions as needed and asking them questions about the material to help them through the problem. In doing so, you allow the student to learn how to work through a problem to find the answer.
During my undergraduate education at the Ohio State University, I was involved in a science heavy major, Nutrition and Community Health. The core sciences were mainly in the area of chemistry and biochemistry. Though I do not have experience with tutoring or teaching for school, I have some experience with teaching and mentoring through the Army National Guard. I am responsible for training up to 10 soldiers some basic knowledge of our job specialty.
