I traveled for a year with a family and home-schooled their 3 children. The children were in 1st grade, kindergarten, and pre-school and were seriously below grade level in math and reading. In that year, I brought those children beyond grade level in reading skills and comprehension as well as math skills. I have also been a teacher's assistant in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms and have gone through student teaching in the 3rd and 6th grade in order to complete my degree. I have had most of my experience with the elementary age-group but I also feel confident working through some middle school and high school material.

While working on bachelors degrees in Music Education and French, I taught music sectionals, private lessons, and classes on primarily on trombone, euphonium, and tuba, among other instruments, co-taught a French class for young elementary students, and worked at a variety of summer camps, including a music camp in which I taught basic music theory to high school students. In addition to tutoring in my home for fifteen years, I received a Summa Cum Laude for the quality of my Master's Thesis in Creative Writing, and was the only student ever to be asked to serve as the Interim Director of the Cleveland State Writing Center. I have won awards, including the Trawick Grant (a $5000) prize for my writing. I have taught college writing to all levels from Developmental to 400-level Special Topics, including in Literature, and I've also taught many classes to non-native speakers of English. A Little Bit About Me...

Every student is different; some require more help than others. As a teacher I have to find the best way for the child to learn. I want learning to be constructive, but also fun. I have discovered through years of education, that the amount of enthusiasm from an educator can make a huge difference. Therefore as an educator, I need to be patient and always encouraging. Adding details, examples, and stories to a study subject can help many students mentally see what I’m trying to teach. I have also found from my acting classes that adding physical movement to a lesson is very powerful.
