My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have tutored children with ADHD in the past and am very patient and capable of getting them to focus on the task at hand with creative teaching skills that encourage them to want to engage in the process of learning the subject matter be presented to them. I know the signs that they have had enough and are shutting down for the day and not to push any further because they will simply not retain anything else. You must be flexible with a special needs student and work with them. Not teach at them.

Creative teaching for a life time love of learning. I gather everything at my disposal to work with my students and teach to their particular style of learning. I have used basketball to teach social studies. Vegetables to teach science. Peanuts cereal and even M & M's to teach math. A lecture is not always the best method of teaching, but that is what they get in the classroom. A tutor has more flexibility.
3 years experience as an educator in the Copperas Cove Independent School District. 2 years experience working independently as a tutor in all core courses with grades pre-K through 6th grade. I have taught all ranges of students, including special education students with ADHD and both high functioning autism and retardation. In the public school setting the special education classes were all taught together as one. However I have tutored them on a one on one basis more eff ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Each child is different and has their own unique set of skills that they bring to the table. You have to find what that child's strength is - and use it to help that child grow in other areas. Each child must be approached as an individual, and there is not a ready-set plan that works for everyone. Find what motivates a child, what makes them tick, establish rapport with them - and then guide them along the way while providing them with multiple opportunities to experience success.
I have seven years of experience teaching general education in elementary schools, with one year of experience in 4th grade, two years in 3rd grade, and four years in 2nd grade. I have worked with children with special needs including autism, ADD/ADHD, and dyslexia. I recently completed my Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism Intervention, along with a Behavior Analysis certificat ... read more

My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Having trouble focusing and paying attention? I can bring you back. And still let you be you. I've worked with the ADD/ADHD population successfully for five years with a local state agency in the State of Texas.

Tutor in the Austin Area for 10 years. Vendor in 'Tutorial Services' for a State Agency for five years. Helped students from 16 to 46 get to where they need to be. Helped students to achieve their goals, and become more efficient with their time and their abilities. I have a knack of making the complicated simple. Experienced, I can easily break down subjects to their essence. Confident and charismatic, I can foster a sense of achievement and self-worth in a student who is struggling with self esteem or test anxiety issues. Familiar with subjects, I am an expert at many levels and across many disciplines. I am the total tutor, who still has much to learn himself.

With over 20 years experience as an educator I have taught, tutored, and trained students from pre-school to adults. I hold an MA in Education and Counseling, a BA in Socialpsychology and an AA in Early Childhood Education. and two teaching credentials - k-8 and adult. I am a credentialed teacher and for the past three years I have taught grades k-12. I teach to the child and motivate them to do better through their natural desires to achieve and to seek approval. I believe in postive reinforcement that is linked to realistic and attainable goals. Building relationship with children and their families is the best tool I know for helping children learn. I see children as a part of the greater systems of family and community. I believe it truly take ... read more

As a graduate of Southwestern University with a Bachelor in English and Communications, I was drawn to the field of education. I come from a family of teachers. After earning a post-baccalaureate certification in Secondary Education with a focus on English/Language Arts, I taught for a couple years and wanted to expand my teaching to younger students as well. During the past ten years, I have tutored AP English, ESL students and parents, elementary students, and middle school students who wanted to improve their reading, speaking, test taking, and writing abilities.

Learning how to read critically and write clearly tends to improve academic performance across the board; students with strong reading and writing skills can absorb and communicate information effectively, even when they are unfamiliar with the material. Mastering these basic skills is as important for college and graduate students as for elementary and high school students. I can help you expand your vocabulary, polish your writing skills, and offer strategies for fast and effective reading comprehension, especially in preparation for the verbal sections of standardized tests. Finally, I am still a student myself, so I can sympathize with a heavy workload, and offer strategies for getting assignments finished on time.
I am a graduate student in the History Department at UT-Austin, and I have a BA in Philosophy from Brown University. Having been a teaching assistant at the college ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Every person learns a bit differently. Personally, I find that an individual’s feeling and attitude about subjects such as mathematics and physics can greatly impact a student's success than any other factor.I aspire to help students see how fun (and actually quite addictive) math and mathematical sciences really are. If it can become fun, it is no longer “work”. I use many analogies. Obtaining a strong conceptual understanding about a topic makes the "problem" part easier to understand and retain. It also reduces frustration. I really love to see someone's face light up... when "it clicks", and there is understanding.
I have a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics.I am a very experienced private math tutor. During my 2nd undergraduate year at TSU, I began to teach physics labs. Initially,I taught "general" physics 1 and 2 lab sections,(those for science majors; excluduing ... read more
