My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have tutored children with ADHD in the past and am very patient and capable of getting them to focus on the task at hand with creative teaching skills that encourage them to want to engage in the process of learning the subject matter be presented to them. I know the signs that they have had enough and are shutting down for the day and not to push any further because they will simply not retain anything else. You must be flexible with a special needs student and work with them. Not teach at them.
3 years experience as an educator in the Copperas Cove Independent School District. 2 years experience working independently as a tutor in all core courses with grades pre-K through 6th grade. I have taught all ranges of students, including special education students with ADHD and both high functioning autism and retardation. In the public school setting the special education classes were all taught together as one. However I have tutored them on a one on one basis more effectively. Just like every other student, they need individual attention to retain what they are taught and have their own learning style that can only be found in a personal tutor that understands their behavior and learning needs.
