I received my Bachelor's degree in 1989 and worked as an assistant engineer in Binghamton NY until I started my masters program at SUNY Cortland. I am a visual learner, and so my first approach to teaching is using visual aids. I usually draw, use diagrams, or try to paint a mental picture for my students of what I'm trying to teach them. I am excellent at explaining complex terms so any layperson can understand them. I have only worked with teenage/young 20s people, so have less experience with a younger crowd. I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves.
