A Little Bit About Me...

I described most of that in the above category. I can only add that I taught one-on-one, coached and conducted small ensembles, worked with groups of 100+ as a clinician or guest artist. I enjoyed all these levels of contact.
I was a professor at Ithaca College for 34 years in the music department. In that capacity I taught private performance lesson, coached chamber ensembles, conducted various ensembles. supervised and coached student teachers, performed in a faculty artist-in-residence quintet, performed solo recitals, assisted students in writing essays, resumes, and applications for positions in the teaching field or graduate studies. I also had many experiences helping students through difficult academic and personal issues. I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves. I very much enjoy helping them figure out the answers to their own problems. My motto: It is my job to help you not need me anymore!

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I work best with motivated students, even those with lower abilities, though I teach exclusively at the high school level and above. I am patient and one of my greatest assets is in analology; I have a profound ability to take complex ideas and make them simple.
I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days.
