Hello everyone! My name is Michael and I am a senior at the University of Utah. My major is Japanese Language and Literature. I'm expecting to graduate next spring and am looking forward to helping you learn more Japanese. Japanese language and culture are very interesting. Japanese calligraphy, tea ceremony, festivals, and traditions are all insights into the Japanese people and to learn Japanese, in my opinion you also need to understand Japanese culture. Some phrases and expressions don’t translate directly, you have to understand the culture to really understand it. For beginner students who haven’t learned how to read or write the syllabary of Japanese Hiragana and Katakana, I strongly recommend that you learn them early to improve reading and pronunciation. I am a recent graduate from University of Utah with a degree in Asian Studies, Chinese Language, and International Relations. I was born and raised in Okinawa Japan and went to a local Japanese school. My first language is Japanese and English and I am able to teach any level (beginner to advanced), including Kanji. My comments on tutoring Japanese : Degree in Japanese and Linguistics from Brigham Young University. Lived in Japan for 2 years in Tokyo. Taught Japanese for 3 years to beginning and intermediate level students

I believe learning should be fun and that students learn better in that type of environment. I help students feel comfortable so that they can learn by making mistakes.
I have taught Japanese for 3 years to those ranging from no knowledge whatsoever through intermediate learners. Lived in Japan for 2 years and continued study of Japan with my bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. I have a broad knowledge of the Japanese culture and of the history of Japan. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is a noble profession. As a missionary I was a teacher for two years. There was a specified message about Jesus Christ and the incredible potential of mankind. Also, I taught English there weekly to natives (including a class for children only -- I made all curriculum up as we went). Now I work with university professors as a Student Consultant on Teaching (SCOT) for the Center for Teaching & Learning at BYU. Friends may describe me as enjoyably casual and patient. I know that learning can be difficult because of my time at a math and science academy in mid. school. Also, I feel knowledge/understanding is a source of peace and joy.
