I believe learning should be fun and that students learn better in that type of environment. I help students feel comfortable so that they can learn by making mistakes.
I have taught Japanese for 3 years to those ranging from no knowledge whatsoever through intermediate learners. Lived in Japan for 2 years and continued study of Japan with my bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. I have a broad knowledge of the Japanese culture and of the history of Japan. My teaching goal is to engage all students. Learning is fun. I am enthusiastic about any subject matter to be taught. Expecting students to master the concept, I teach in a variety of ways (discovery, literacy, guided learning, direct instruction, etc) until I feel that they have it. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is a noble profession. As a missionary I was a teacher for two years. There was a specified message about Jesus Christ and the incredible potential of mankind. Also, I taught English there weekly to natives (including a class for children only -- I made all curriculum up as we went). Now I work with university professors as a Student Consultant on Teaching (SCOT) for the Center for Teaching & Learning at BYU. Friends may describe me as enjoyably casual and patient. I know that learning can be difficult because of my time at a math and science academy in mid. school. Also, I feel knowledge/understanding is a source of peace and joy.
