I have ways to make the complicated materials seem much easier to understand and I can explain how to summarize the important info from a tough concept.

In college I was able to tutor children in reading and math at Tucson Metropolitan Ministries. After I received my bachelor's degree in ecology and evolutionary biology (minoring in science education), I wanted to teach youth in an alternative setting. I taught for six months at Lutheran, Retreats, Camps and Conferences in California. I gained experience in hands-on teaching styles and how to provide concrete examples for abstract ideas. Most of my experience is working as a Wildlife Biologist for the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation (1973-2006). I worked as a teaching Assistant for Dr. Bender at ASU (1972). I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Science from Northwest Nazarene College (University)and a Master of Science in Zoology from Arizona State University.
I believe in a more visual aspect in learning and teaching. "Hands on" as much as possible. For example, it's easier to learn looking at a mesquite tree than reading about it or looking at a picture of the tree. I try to make learning fun and thrill to the discovery of knowledge. A lot of biology however, is more of a "rote memorization" type of learning. This tends to bore some so I try to make it more real and exciting.

Teaching Style: When the school busses arrived in the morning at Drumlin Farm, I would always welcome the visiting pupils with great enthusiasm. I would determine what the boys and girls already knew, or thought they knew, and what they would like to learn. Then we would go off to have a joyous and educational time learning about, and milking the cows, collecting and scrambling eggs, or planting pumpkin seeds in the warm May soil.
