I currently work as a 9th and 10th grade English/Language Arts teacher at Harmony School of Science in West Houston. With ten years of experience, I have educated, mentored, and tutored students with a wide variety of abilities, including gifted and talented, special education, and ESL. I encourage my students to be the core of teaching by stimulating them to engage in discussions about certain topics of their liking. Also, I encourage them express themselves even though they might make mistakes. I help them find why is it a mistake and how to correct them. I taught Arabic as a second language in Plainfield Indiana to students of different ages and of both sexes. I taught all language skills with some concentration on reading skills and conversation. The size of the class was relatively big as I had about 40 students. I encouraged students to express their ideas in the form of written sentences and the I would go over what they wrote in order to correct their sentences by showing the how to construct a sound Arabic sentences.

I allow students to discover answers by themselves by prompting them with questions. This hands off technique reflects the minimalist philosophy of the writing center I worked for, and I have found it is a far more effective way to help students grasp concepts which will globally make their writing better. Understanding the fundamentals of good writing is the most important tool to becoming a good writer; where merely diagnosing an issue and giving an answer for it leads to much more lazy writing in the future.
