Honestly, not sure how to answer this. I think the entire benefit of working with a private tutor is that the tutor is able to change and adapt to complement the student. I wouldn't think to walk into a room and presume to know where the student is struggling or how best to help him.
What I do consistently is to focus on basics and use colors, organization and logic to solve problems. Too often, people memorize the steps without understanding where they come from, this leaves them high and dry if theres any chance of test anxiety or a "curveball" question. John D - Stateline, NV 89449 (40.1 mi) - High School Statistics Tutor - $38.00/hr.
I am a former mathematics teacher who is interested in returning to the profession. I have both tutored and taught the subject in the past, and have test scores that demonstrate my current proficiency. Recently, I finished a "refresher" graduate-level course at UNR, and am independently reading an assortment of literature from NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and others. Mathematics is a field that extends beyond a series of procedures as it taught far too widely these days. My stress is on conceptual understanding, as it is the key to understanding the subject. Even moreso than the procedures that we have been accustomed to viewing as being the core of Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, conceputal underpinnings are what the make the subject meaningful.

I was raised in a home where education was a priority and my mom religiously practiced flash cards and read with us. I believe anyone can learn given the time to practice and someone to encourage them and push them in a consistently patient and loving way. I believe it is education and knowledge that will help make our societies better and I want to be a part of that. My teaching style is one of understanding the perspective of the student and working with their foundation knowledge to build and grow upon. I know I have so much to offer the next generations as well as those who may be my age or older working on advancing their lives. The best job I ever had was tutoring math at a learning center. I found it so rewarding to watch my students learn and enjoy their time learning with me. Although I did not have a teaching certificate or a degree at the time the director of the center k

I am a very understanding and considerate person and my teaching style reflects that. I have been counseling a week-long church camp in southern California for the past 5 years now and I absolutely love doing it. The ages are 9-12 and I look forward to it every year. I have also worked with older children when I worked at the Boy's and Girl's Club. I definitely believe a successful tutor can really change the life of a young adult by stressing the importance of education. Sometimes all it takes is hearing it from a different person in a different perspective. I am a recent graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. I earned my BS in Finance through the College of Business Administration which enabled me to gain experience in different subjects such as math, economics, accounting, information systems, and marketing. I also used to tutor other, younger students when I was in high school.
