I have been tutoring math for the past 2 years, focusing primarily on high school math. I have tutored students taking Georgia's Math 1, 2, and 3 courses (equivalent to Algebra I,II, and III, Geometry, some Trig and some Statistics). I have also assisted students with improving their SAT scores and do SAT tutoring through a private company. I have helped adults prepare to take their GED Math Exam and other college entrance exams. First I write down the rules for students to use as a guide to solve problems. I believe the old saying "repetition is the father of learning" is very true. As a student in college, I had a professor who would walk into the class room, and begin writing example after example. I have adopted that approach because it helps students become familiar and establish a routine to problem solving. Then I solve some more similar problems while explaining the rules in each step. Finally after solving many problems of my own, the students solve problems from the text book. I also provide references to material that can help advance the student’s knowledge.
