Experience Summary
As a student, I was gifted in math. I went through school rarely scoring anything lower than a 95 in math courses. I routinely tested in the 99 percentile on standardized test, and as a 6th grader test showed I was already on the 11th grade level. I finished several college math courses with a 105 average. I started tutoring math in January of 2001. I have tutoring from k-12 and college students also in courses that include basic math, pre algebra, algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, and SAT math. I have remained involved in math after finishing my degree in 2001 because I love mathematics. It has always been my passion, and I enjoy helping others achieve success in their courses.
Teaching Style
First I write down the rules for students to use as a guide to solve problems. I believe the old saying "repetition is the father of learning" is very true. As a student in college, I had a professor who would walk into the class room, and begin writing example after example. I have adopted that approach because it helps students become familiar and establish a routine to problem solving. Then I solve some more similar problems while explaining the rules in each step. Finally after solving many problems of my own, the students solve problems from the text book. I also provide references to material that can help advance the student’s knowledge.
