Experience Summary
Upon receiving my BA, I began a 26-year journey in high school and college education. My primary teaching duties were in biology, chemistry, and earth sciences.
I was appointed department chair for three schools and served as district coordinator for sciences at one of those schools. I have worked to develop science curriculum programs for Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and Marine Sciences in South Carolina. I have instructed Human Anatomy and Physiology for two community colleges in South Carolina and for four regional colleges in Savannah and Brunswick, Georgia.
My degree of success is the accomplishments of my students at all levels.
Teaching Style
I use a combined demonstration and discussion style for lecture and introduction of topics to be studied. Labs are a demonstration followed by a monitored hands-on work experience.
I integrate reading and computational skills into my subject matter and use contemporary internet sources to supplement all content items. Practice assignments are designed as reinforcers for the most important skills and topics of the lesson. Homework is for quality, not for quantity. Testing is always followed by analysis and reinforced correctives. Good tests become learning tools.
